Freemax Maxus Solo 100W Mod Kit Review / Includes the Fireluke Solo Tank

We’re really pleased to be reviewing the Freemax Maxus Solo 100W Mod with the Fireluke Solo Tank. We are eager to put it through its paces and look at every aspect from its design and performance to see if it lives up to our expectations.

We hope after reading our review it will have answered any questions you may of had about it.

Freemax’s latest release, the Maxus Solo 100W kit is the 5th device now bearing the Maxus name. Their earlier releases; the Maxus 50W kit, Maxus 100W kit, Maxus 200W kit and the Maxus Max 168W kit have proved really popular being very good high tech mods incorporating the Fireluke 22, Fireluke 3, M Pro 2 tanks and the DTL Pod respectively.

Freemax are renowned for producing really good quality yet affordable Mods and Pods with full functionality. Their Tanks and Coils provide intense flavor from their Mesh coils with industry leading FM Coiltech technology using their Tea Fibre Cotton Formula.

Having reviewed the majority of their devices over the last year or so, I really can say with all honesty we’ve been so impressed with the quality and performance of all their products.

It’s fair to say if you ask the majority of vapers to name their favorite Brand, Mod/Pod or Tank, Freemax will more often than not feature in the top 5. The performance from their coils in terms of flavor is hard to beat.

I’ve no doubt the Maxus Solo 100W kit with the Fireluke Solo Tank will complement the Maxus range and be equally as successful as its predecessors. There are no limitations with this kit, it will do what you want and more!

Overview

The Maxus Solo 100W mod kit is powered by a single external 18650/20700/21700 battery and boasts a 1.06inch OLED selectable color changing screen with a difference. This screen not only looks very futuristic but also illuminates, breaths or flashes in different colors.

Virtually the whole front of the mod is transparent so you can see the electronics below the control buttons with the main UI screen appearing as if it’s floating in air. If that wasn’t enough, the entire reverse side of the mod illuminates too. Freemax market this as Full Spectrum Vaping. Don’t panic….you can switch the light effects off if you prefer!

A 2A Type-C USB fast charging port is located on the front panel just below the + and – control buttons and the fire button is positioned at the top end of the display. A side located sliding Lock/Unlock switch stops the mod from firing rather than the usual 3 clicks of the fire button.

Control of the Maxus Solo 100W mod is carried out by the upgraded FM Chip 3.0, providing accurate power levels, ultra-fast firing speeds and the usual host of safety features. Its full feature operating modes include Power (wattage), Variable Power Control, Bypass, Temperature Control and TCR.

Included in the Maxus Solo kit is the new Fireluke Solo Tank with an e-liquid capacity of 5ml (2ml TPD version), is a lift and slide to open top fill with fully adjustable dual Cyclops bottom airflow control. Its mouthpiece is a removable 810 wide bore drip tip and accepts the new FL platform of push fit coils.

The FL coils utilize Freemax’s FM COILTECH 4.0 (Tea Fibre Cotton Formula and Military Grade SS904L Mesh) and the newly introduced FM COILTECH 5.0 on the pre-installed FL-D double mesh coil. Freemax specify that the FM COILTECH 5.0 improves the flavor by 50% over their existing 4.0 Coiltech because of the 360 degree wrap around mesh so we are in for some very impressive performance from this coil.

Overall, the Maxus Solo 100W mod kit looks really impressive and very stylish. Read on to find out what we thought of it and how it performed.

Freemax Maxus Solo 100W Mod Design and Appearance

  

The dimensions of the Maxus Solo 100W mod are 28.8mm depth x 42.8mm width x 90mm tall and weighs in at 122grams. The shape of the Maxus Solo 100W mod is rectangular with the back end semi-circular (oval) making this extremely tactile and very comfortable to hold.

 

It’s a full functioning mod capable of 5W-100W of Power (Wattage) with Normal / Sport and Eco ramp up options. It also operates in Temperature Control (TC) mode including Temperature Coefficient of Resistance (TCR) with Bypass and Variable Power Curve (VPC) modes.

What makes this stand out from its competitors is the illumination options of the display and the breathing / flashing color display of the reverse panel and front screen on the Maxus Solo. I will explain this in more detail as we progress through the review, but as a spoiler, it’s like something out of Close Encounters of the Third Kind or for you music fans, the ELO concert back in the 70’s at Wembley Arena.

A single external 18650/20700/21700 battery powers the mod with the battery sliding latch door located at the bottom of the Maxus Solo 100W. The battery door has 2 slightly raised parallel lines with a raised arrow to provide finger resistance when sliding the door towards the back of the mod to open.

If you’re using an 18650 battery to power the Maxus Solo, you will need to use the included 18650 battery adaptor to keep the battery in position. This adaptor can be inserted either way round as long as you ensure the positive terminal of the battery is inserted into the battery compartment first.

Once un-latched and opened, the battery door has a negative symbol (-) identified on the clear transparent protector inside the door and a red positive (+) cross around the gold plated spring loaded positive contact connector inside the mod.

There are also 2 reasonably sized battery venting holes in the battery door just in case there are any issues with the battery overheating or venting. Closing the battery door is simply carried out by closing the door and sliding back towards the front of the mod to latch and lock into position. With or without the battery inserted, the battery door feels secure and there is no rattle or movement.

One observation we noticed is when the battery is inserted, the Maxus Solo 100W powers-up straight away. This is not an issue, just the way the software functions as it does this on other Maxus devices. It can be powered off using 5 clicks of the fire button.

Charging the battery in the mod can be carried out using the supplied charging cable plugged into the Type-C USB port on the lower part of the front panel, just below the + and – control buttons. This USB port is specified as 5V/2A so will charge pretty quickly.

The Maxus Solo 100W mod is constructed out of Zinc-Alloy and Stainless Steel making it pretty lightweight with a smoked black tinted transparent screen covering the majority of the front of the mod where the UI display and control buttons are located.

On the reverse oval shaped back and wrap around sides is the same smoked black tinted inlay with a faint pattern running through it and the branding “MAXUS Solo” running the length of the mod. This whole black wrap around inlay panel lights up when the mod is fired or adjusted.

There are 6 available color options in the Maxus Solo range, these being Black, Colbalt Blue, Golden, Gunmetal, Red and Sea Blue. The one I received from Freemax and shown in the photos is the Gunmetal color.

At the top of the Maxus Solo 100W mod is the spring loaded gold plated 510 threaded center pin with 4 small indented cut-outs around it. The center thread is very slightly raised to stop the attached tank from scratching the surface when it’s fitted.

On the right hand side (when looking at the front) of the Maxus Solo 100W mod is a small sliding switch which locks and unlocks the mod to stop any accidental firing. It’s screen printed below the switch with “Lock” >>> “Unlock” and the switch pattern follows the 4 indented angled bar pattern on both sides of the Maxus Solo.

The front of the Maxus Solo 100W is a thing of beauty. The full length smoked black face plate is transparent so you can see the printed circuit boards beneath and yes this lights up as well. There is a 1.06 inch OLED colored display screen embedded beneath the faceplate and when it’s lit up it looks like the display is floating in the faceplate.

Two 6-sided shape buttons are positioned towards the bottom of the faceplate, these being the + and – control buttons, with a single larger square shaped firing button at the top of the faceplate.

The 3 control buttons have a very positive “click” feel to them with NO button rattle at all.

All of the user information is clearly visible on the display, even in pretty bright sunlight. Different color display and backlit color options are selectable via the “Settings” menu which can also be switched on / off / breathing or flashing. Further explanation of these options are detailed in the Functionality section of this review.

Branding is quite prominent with the words “MAXUS SOLO” screen printed on the wrap around smoked black screen inlay panel on the rear of the device and a smaller “FreeMax” screen printed on the opposite side to the lock/unlock switch.

The Smart FM 3.0 Chipset in the Maxus Solo 100W mod provides all the necessary protection and will display these notifications on the 1.06inch OLED display screen:

I’m very impressed with the design and appearance of the Maxus Solo 100W mod, the build quality looks and feels really good. It will perform every function you’re ever likely to want and the transparent screen and back panel with its light show will keep you amused for hours.

Don’t be put off with the glitzy light effects, they are easily switched off.

Freemax Fireluke Solo Tank Design and Appearance

                    

The Freemax Fireluke Solo tank is 28mm wide by 50.35mm tall with a 5ml e-liquid capacity (2ml TPD). The 5ml version has a bubble Pyrex glass, while the 2ml version uses a straight glass.

The top fill design is child-proof, incorporating a spring loaded pull to open and slide backwards filling system. When open, the kidney bean shaped fill port measures approximately 8.5mm to allow for a large tip e-liquid bottle to be used.

When the top cap is open for filling, you can look down the 810 drip tip and you’ll see a small air release valve. This prevents the e-liquid spilling back out of the fill port while your filling the tank.

Airflow is achieved by a variable quarter turn dual slot fully adjustable air flow control ring at the bottom of the tank. Unscrewing the airflow control ring will undo the 510 base allowing access to the push fit FL series coil. Once the 510 base is removed, the pyrex glass can then be removed away from the sliding top cap section.

The Fireluke Solo with it’s range of FL coils and wide bore 810 drip tip is predominately a Direct To Lung (DTL) vaping style tank.

Irrespective of the color you choose for the Maxus Solo, the Fireluke Solo tank color comes in a matt black finish only. The mouthpiece is also matt black having a removable 810 wide bore drip tip.

The words “FreeMax” are printed on the top of the tank just above a small white arrow, indicating the position where you lift and slide backwards to fill. The base of the tank has “Designed By Freemax” and the “Fireluke Solo” name

Two coils are supplied with the Maxus Solo 100W kit, a 0.15 ohm mesh FL1-D coil rated at 50–80 watts (pre-installed) and a 0.2 ohm mesh FL2 coil also rated at 50-80 watts. An FL3 mesh 0.15 ohm coil is also available and is sold separately to the kit.

Freemax Maxus Solo 100W Mod Functionality
The Maxus Solo 100W mod comes fully loaded with features which includes Power (wattage) mode with Normal, Sport and Eco ramp up options. Temperature control modes which include SS316, NI, TI and TCR1/2/3. There are also modes for Variable Power Curve (VCR) and Bypass.

Accessing all these different functions is carried out using the fire button and the + and – buttons.

It’s worth having a read of the manual to familiarize yourself with the structure of the menus. The manual is very good as it shows and explains most of the available options. The menu structure is straight forward and easy to follow but I would recommend for the first time having a play with the different menu’s to familarise yourself before you fit the Fireluke Solo Tank.

The Maxus Solo 100W mod incorporates a 1.06inch colored OLED display to show all of the set parameters and changes to these are carried out by sequential presses of the fire button and the +/- buttons.

A quick start guide of the basic function are:

·Side slide switch will Lock/Unlock the device
·Fire button pressed 5 times turns the device on or off
·Fire button pressed 3 times will switch to the operating modes
·+ button will increment the wattage in 0.5W steps
·– button will decrease the wattage in 0.5W steps
·Fire button and – button will switch to the Menu settings
·Fire button and + button shows the software version
·+ and – buttons together will Lock/Unlock the Key Lock

Included on the 1.06inch OLED colored display Main screen is all of the read-out information as follows:

·Selected mode (Power/VPC/Bypass/TC/TCR)

Turning the Maxus Solo 100W mod on and off is carried out by pressing the fire button 5 times in quick succession. When initially turning on, the screen will display “X” with “Freemax” underneath and then the control chip version “FMOS 3.0”. After that, the display shows the mode you are in, displaying the coil resistance, volts, wattage or temperature, puff counter and battery status.

Switching between the different modes is very straight-forward and the display is very intuitive. The display is not cluttered and the size of the numerical information is good making it easy to read. Brightness of the display is nice and bright so will be no trouble viewing in normal sunlight.

In-activity of any button presses after a period of 30 seconds will put the display into standby mode (blank).

Locking and unlocking the device is carried out by sliding the “Lock>>>Unlock” switch on the side of the Maxus Solo. This will enable or disable all functions. The Maxus Solo screen will display the status of the lock/unlock screen as it’s applied.

Pressing the + and – buttons simultaneously for 1 second will “Lock” or “Unlock” the Key Lock. This enables or disables the +/- buttons leaving just the Fire button operative. There is no lock symbol on the main display but pressing either the + or – buttons will highlight a “Key Lock” symbol and prompt on the display screen.

During normal use, when you press the fire button to vape, the screen display will switch to a spinning wheel with a real time numerical reading in the center. This value shows the length of time in seconds that the fire button was pressed while you vaped. After 1 second the display will switch back to the main display screen.

Main Display Menu Settings
With the Main display shown on the screen, press the fire button 3 times in quick succession and it will take you into the adjustable options of that main screen. The selectable option will flash in a different color. While it is flashing, press either the + or – button and it will scroll through what can be selected and adjusted on that main screen.

As you scroll through each option, the one that you’ve selected will be highlighted and will flash. Pressing the fire button on the selected flashing menu will take you to that particular menu and will change the flashing highlight to a static color. Once the highlighted color becomes static, use the + or – buttons to scroll through the menu options that can be selected.

Once you’ve chosen the mode you want, while that mode is flashing, press the fire button and the mode you’ve selected becomes operational. Alternatively, the flashing mode highlight will be selected after 5 seconds if no button is pressed.

Mode Menu

To change between the different available modes the Maxus Solo provides i.e. Power, VPC, TC etc, press the fire button 3 times and the highlighted mode will flash. Press the fire button and the flashing highlight will turn static.

While the highlighted color is static, use the + or – button to scroll through the available options as follows:

·Power: (Wattage mode, 5W-100W)
·VPC: (Variable Power Curve; adjustable over 10 increments)
·Bypass (power mode derived from the batteries voltage
·TC SS316 (Stainless Steel)
·TC NI (Nickel)
·TC TI (Titanium)
·TCR 1, 2 or 3 (Temperature Coefficient Resistance)

Once you’ve selected the mode you want, press the fire button and it will set that mode of operation.

Depending on what mode you’ve selected, there are additional sub menus for Power, VPC, TC and TCR as follows:

·Power: (Norm / Sport / Eco)
·VPC: (P1 : P10)
·TC: (SS316 / TC NI / TC TI)
·TCR: (1, 2 or 3)

Use the + or – buttons to scroll through each of the available settings. As you scroll through each one, the one that’s highlighted can be selected and adjusted by pressing the fire button.

Variable Power Curve (VPC) Adjustment
Setting the VPC mode is very straight-forward, simply highlight that option and press the fire button. A graphical display (bar graph) will be shown highlighting the pre-set wattage values for each 1 second time period.

To adjust the different levels, with the VPC mode highlighted, press the fire button again. A smaller graphical display will show with P1 and its wattage value to the right of it. You can use the – button to scroll down each power (P) setting to see each of the values set.

Adjusting any of the P1-P10 values is carried out by pressing the fire button on the highlighted P setting. This will then highlight the numerical box next to the P setting. Use the + or – button to change this value. As you alter the value, you will see the small graph above change in line with the value you’re adjusting.

Continue changing all P1:P10 values to achieve your desired Power Curve. Once you’ve finished amending the values, scroll down to the Exit setting and press the fire button. Your amended Power Curve is now set and the larger VPC screen will be displayed with your amended power curve.

Temperature Control Adjustment
If you want to vape in temperature control mode, use the same process as we’ve explained previously for highlighting the TC mode. Once that’s selected, the main screen will display Temperature in either 0C or 0F.

Scroll down to the smaller window on the display screen and select the wire type you have; SS, NI or TI.

Once that’s selected, the small window to the right of the display will allow you to adjust the maximum wattage level that can be achieved. Finally, at the top right of the display you can then lock or unlock the coil resistance.

You can select under the Settings menu how you want the temperature to be displayed, either in Centigrade or Farenheight.

Temperature Coefficient of Resistance Adjustment
If your intending to vape using a different wire type from the 3 pre-set types of SS316, NI or TI, then you can select the TCR menu and then alter the TCR value for the wire type you’re using.

There are 3 available TCR settings that you can store your desired data in, TCR 1, TCR 2 or TCR 3.

Main Settings Menu

Press the fire button 3 times then press either the + or – button to highlight the “Settings” menu. Press the fire button and it will take you to the next level of adjustable parameters as outlined below:

·Coil Test (Automatic coil detection on or off)
·Timeout (10 seconds, adjustable from 5-15 seconds)
·Theme Color (Select available colors)
·LED On/Off
·LED Control (Always On, Breath or Flashing)
·0C/0F (select Centigrade or Fahrenheit)
·Puff Reset (reset the puff counter)
·Time Reset (records your overall vaping time)
·Reset (factory reset)
·Exit

The user manual, while being fairly detailed in the different settings, doesn’t tell you much about the different setting and what they do. To give a little insight to what the different options mean, we’ve included a brief description below:

Power Mode:

Standard wattage mode. The Maxus Solo device will operate between 5W all the way up to 100W in 0.5W increments. Holding down the + or – button will scroll through the increments faster in 0.5W increments. There is no round robin when scrolling, once you reach the maximum you will have to press the – button to go back down and visa versa for the minimum value.

Temperature Control (TC):

Select either Stainless Steel 316L (SS), Titanium (Ti), Nickel 200 (Ni) or Temperature Coefficient Resistance (TCR). The 3 pre-set wire types have fixed pre-programmed values, whereas TCR allows you to set the TCR value when using other temperature heating wires. The variable range for TCR is 0010 to 999.

While in TC mode, once you’ve selected your wire type, use the + or – buttons to scroll to the other configurable options and select the maximum wattage you want to reach, the TCR value for your specified wire type and to “Lock” or “Unlock” the Coil Resistance.

Variable Power Curve (VPC):

This function will allow you to specify different wattages that can be applied to your coil over a vape cycle to fully customize your vaping experience. There are 10 variable wattage settings (P1:P10), each adjustable from 5W to 100W with each setting being fixed for a 1 second time period.

Bypass Mode (BP):

Provides a direct output voltage from the battery, simulating the feel and style of a Mech mod. When this mode is selected you’re not able to adjust the wattage, the wattage you’ll vape at is determined by the voltage output of your battery.

The main larger display will indicate the Voltage that’s being applied to the coil and the smaller wattage display shows the wattage that you’re vaping at.

Be aware that in this mode, on a fully charged battery (4.2V), you could be vaping in excess of 100W. As the battery voltage reduces so will the wattage your vaping at reduce simulating that of a mechanical mod.

Coil Test:
When this is set to ON, the Maxus Solo will check whether the coil you’re using matches the mode you’ve selected. If you’re using a non temperature control coil i.e. a Kanthal coil and you select temperature control, when you press the fire button it will switch to a prompt showing what modes you can use.

I will say that playing with this function and trying to raise the prompt was a little frustrating as it didn’t always appear to work. Hopefully it’s because I was doing something wrong or I’ve misunderstood what the Coil Test actually does.

LED Color Themes
There are 3 different settings relating to the screen color and backlit (mood lighting) colors.

Theme Color: There are 5 fixed colors and a random select option that will change the color of the main 1.06inch display screen.

LED On/Off: Selecting the LED to “ON” will illuminate the mood lighting within the front panel facia and on the reverse wraparound facia panel. Switching the LED to “OFF” will turn the mod lighting off leaving just the 1.06inch OLED display illuminated.

LED Control: There are 4 selectable options within this menu to control the mood lighting:

·Always On
·Breathing
·Flashing
·Colors: 9 Default colors or DIY LED colors

When selecting the DIY LED colors, another sub menu appears allowing you to change the values of Red, Green and Blue.

I think that covers the functionality and what the Maxus Solo 100W mod is capable of doing. It really does have a high end spec and the mood lighting / Full Spectrum Vaping is very unique. The menu structure is very intuitive to navigate through and becomes easy once you’ve familiarized yourself with the options.

A lot of thought has gone into the design of the menu’s and overall I think it’s a fantastic device.

The 1.06inch OLED screen really is a pleasure to use and see. All of the detailed information is clearly visible and each parameter is large enough to see.

Freemax Maxus Solo 100W Kit Performance

Composition of both the included coils that come with the Maxus Solo 100W kit are Mesh and Tea Fiber Cotton using military grade SS904L mesh. The FM1 mesh coil uses the proven FM Coiltech 4.0 technology and the FM1-D mesh coil uses the new FM Coiltech 5.0 technology.

FM Coiltech 5.0 utilizes a Double D parallel mesh and improved Tea Fibre Cotton which Freemax specify as improving the heating speed with flavor and vapor production increased by 50% over the FM Coiltech 4.0 technology.

FM1-D Double Mesh 0.15 ohm Coil

Freemax specify the minimum and maximum wattage range for this coil is 50W-80W, best at 80W.

After priming the coil, filling the tank with 70VG/30PG Watermelon e-liquid and waiting 10-15 minutes, I set the wattage to 30W to take a few draws to bed the coil in. Even at this wattage the flavor was prominent and the vapor clouds very dense.

Increasing the wattage slowly up to 50W produced very impressive results in terms of flavor and vapor. I was very happy with these results. If I’m honest, the vape at this wattage was a little to intense for me.

Adjusting the wattage up to 80W was just so impressive, the flavor and vapor was insane. With the airflow fully open, the draw was an airy to semi-restrictive DTL vape. Closing the airflow half way produced a tighter draw with suited my vaping style.

At 80W, the vape was way too intense for me. Reducing the wattage back down to 40W seemed to be my sweet spot and was very happy vaping at this power level, giving me a longer slow draw with still very impressive flavor with think dense vapor clouds. I’ve gone through about 40ml of e liquid without any dry hits or decrease in flavor.

FL2 Mesh 0.2 ohm Coil

Freemax specify the minimum and maximum wattage range for this coil is 50W-80W, best at 80W (same as the FL1-D coil).

Using the same e-liquid and VG/PG ratio I again started off at 30W. The flavor and vapor was coming through but needed to be increased to 40W before it started to become really pleasurable. Ramping the wattage to 50W, 60W, 70W and finally 80W produced very similar results to the FL1-D coil although not quite as intense at the same power levels.

Flavor and vapor was equally as impressive. Decreasing the wattage back down to a manageable 45W was perfect for me in terms of flavor even though still produced clouds of vapor.

I’ve used this coil for approx. 25 tank fills and it’s still performing with no leaks or dry burns and no loss of flavor or vapor.

Coil Summary
Both these coils produced terrific results but that’s hardly surprising as I’ve come to expect great things from Freemax coils and I’ve not been disappointed. The flavor is always off the charts.

Vaping on these coils at lower wattage’s can be done with very good results, using them on the recommended wattage was too intense for me. Just below the recommended minimum for me suited my vaping style just perfect.

The only downside for me was the 2ml tank capacity. These coils do tend to drink e-liquid and I was having to fill the tank up quite often. Ok, I was being polite, I was only getting about 20 minutes vaping time before I had to re-fill the tank.

It’s not the coils or the tank or Freemax’s fault, The 2ml capacity enforced by the TPD is just plain ridiculous. Purchasing a 5ml bubble glass for the Fireluke Solo is a MUST.

Freemax Maxus Solo 100W Battery Performance
The Maxus Solo 100W mod can be powered from either a single external 18650, 20700 or 21700 battery. When using an 18650 battery you will need to use the included 18650 battery adaptor to keep the battery secure inside the mod.

On average I was getting approximately 6hrs of vaping from an 18650 battery having a CDR value of 30A with a capacity of 3000mAh before I had to re-charge. Obviously this is very subjective and depends on several factors:

·Your vaping style
·Type of coil you’re using
·Capacity of your battery
·Age of your battery
·Size of battery being used
·Power level (wattage) you vape at
·LED lighting On or Off

When vaping at high wattage in excess of 80W, I would recommend using a high capacity battery with at least a 25A CDR value, if not err on the side of caution and use a 30A CDR value battery.

Longer run times between charges can be achieved by using a higher capacity 21700 sized battery.

Freemax have again included the option of “Pass-Through”, meaning that if you do decide to charge your batteries using the Type-C charging port, you can still vape the Maxus Solo 100W mod while it’s being charged.

How do I Fill the Freemax Fireluke Solo Tank?

The Fireluke Solo tank incorporates a child proof lift and slide top filling locking mechanism. It is very easy to fill. Simply lift up the spring loaded top cap of the tank and slide back the top of the tank.

Note: The top cap section of the tank will lift up by about 2mm and you will feel it’s under pressure because of the spring mechanism. There is a small white colored arrow just under the words “FreeMax”, that is the part that will slide back revealing the filling port.

Fill up with your favorite e-liquid through the fill port then simply slide the top cap section back and it will automatically spring back down shut.

The locking mechanism is really good, once secured there is no fear of it inadvertently opening.

Quick Tip: If you are filling the tank for the first time, drip a few drops of e liquid onto the wick of the coil first. Push the coil into the tank then fill the tank and leave to stand for approx. 10-15 minutes before you start to vape. This will help saturate the wick fully in e-liquid and help prolong the life of your coil.

How do I Change the Coil in the Freemax Fireluke Solo Tank?

Grasp both the top cap and glass tube then slowly unscrew the airflow control ring sections anti-clockwise. Continue unscrewing until the Airflow control ring and 510 threaded base section comes away from the main body of the tank.

Because the coils are a push fit type, simply pull the old coil out from the bottom of the tank and replace with a new one. These FL coils are a secure fit so quite a lot of force will be required to prize the coil out from the base of the Maxus Solo.

Do note if the tank has e-liquid in it while you’re remove the coil, e-liquid will spill from the tank. The best method to avoid this or to keep e-liquid spillage to a minimum is to hold the tank upside down (drip tip pointing downwards), place your finger tightly over the opening of the drip tip and then remove the coil.

Replace with a new coil while still holding your finger over the drip tip. Turn the tank the right way up and take your finger off the drip tip.

Do ensure that your new coil is primed and when filled, left to stand for 15 minutes so the e-liquid fully saturates the wick. See our guide on Prolonging the Life of your Coil.

How do I Charge the Freemax Maxus Solo 100W Mod?

As with most external battery mods, there are always 2 ways which you can charge the battery. Either in the mod itself or using an external charger (recommended).

The Maxus Solo 100W has a front panel located Type-C USB port just below the + and – buttons. A Type-C USB charging cable comes supplied with the kit. Simply connect the cable into the USB port on the front of the Maxus Solo 100W mod and the other end into a suitable USB power source. The specified charging circuit of the Maxus is 5V/2A.

When the Maxus Solo 100W mod is first placed on charge, it shows the main display screen’s battery icon with a cycling scale indicating the status charge of the battery. After approximately 1 minute, the screen changes to a full screen cycling battery icon.

After another couple of minutes, the battery icon dims down to half brightness at which point the LED backlight will also start to cycle (breath) at a reduced brightness.

A further couple of minutes later the main display goes black but the LED backlight remains breathing indicating that the device is still being charged.

Note: The LED will cycle (breath) while it’s being charged even if you’ve turned the LED to “OFF”.

Once the battery charging cycle has been completed and the battery is fully charged, the LED backlight will stop breathing and remain permanently illuminated.

A Pass-Through function is included allowing you to charge and vape at the same time.

Charging time from full discharge to fully charged will take approximately 3 hours when using a 5V/2A source. This time will vary depending on the capacity of the battery you’re using.

As with any vape device, ALWAYS charge the mod resting on a non-flammable surface and NEVER leave your mod unattended whilst charging.

Freemax Maxus Solo 100W Mod Kit Summary

Having used the Freemax Maxus Solo 100W mod kit since it was delivered, I’m finding it very hard to put it down. Everything about it is pleasurable to use.

I could go on about all the functions the Maxus Solo has, even the performance from the Fireluke Solo tank but hopefully if you’ve read this review, you should know by now that I really do like it.

It’s a great kit for any vaper, beginner and experienced vaper alike. It can be as simple to use as you want, or if you wish to play with the advanced functions, it has it all there at your fingertips.

The flavor and vapor from the FL coils really are outstanding with the coil life being good too. Freemax continue producing some of the best coils around. The design and build quality is really good, the operation and menu structure is straight-forward and simple to use and the 1.06inch OLED colored display is very crisp and clear.

Some people will love the color changing LED light effects while other’s wont but either way, it’s impressive and if you’re in the latter camp, you can always turn the LED light effects off.

Freemax continue to product innovative products of the highest standard and the results can be clearly seen with this their new release. I definitely recommend this device and am really enjoying using it. I don’t think anyone that decides to purchase one will be disappointed.
