A review today for the second in the series of the recently released mods by Vaporesso, this is the Gen 80 S Kit by Vaporesso. This is the smaller single 18650 version of its bigger brother, the Gen 200, reviewed last week by Jen.
Every seasoned vaper will know of Vaporesso being one of the biggest brands in vaping and the Gen series has been their flagship device over the last few years. I reviewed the original Gen mod on its release and it proved to be a very good mod that stayed popular among vapers. The Gen 200 looks to carry on that success and we’ll see what the smaller Gen 80 S is about.
Packaging & Contents
The Gen 80 S Kit by Vaporesso comes sealed in a white cardboard box with a white outer cardboard sleeve. The top of the sleeve includes a large embossed image of the Gen 80 S kit of the colour inside. It also has the embossed silver title and branding (with the all-new Vaporesso logo) and key features of the kit printed at the bottom. The right side of the sleeve has the printed ‘Gen 80 S’ title and the left side has printed info on Vaporesso’s new logo and a scratch-for-authenticity label.
On the bottom of the outer sleeve are printed specifications of the kit, the packing list of the contents, Vaporesso’s contact info (Smore technology), barcode and warnings. The outer sleeve slides off to reveal the branded Vaporesso box and the contents inside, which are:
§Vaporesso Gen 80 S Mod.

§GTi 0.2Ω Mesh Coil.
§GTi 0.4Ω Mesh Coil.

The colour of the kit being reviewed is Aurora Green but is also available in Dark Black, Light Silver, Matte Grey, Midnight Blue and Sunset Glow Pink.
Gen 80 S Mod
The Gen 80 S Mod runs via an external 18650 battery. It powers from 5-80W powered by Vaporesso’s AXON chip. The device with the iTank attached measures 140.5mm high, 25.5mm wide and a depth of 34mm. Its weight is massively light compared to other single battery devices and is built with a rubber coating topped with polycarbonate.
At the back of the Gen 80 S is a pull-away battery magnetic battery door with ‘Vaporesso’ etched into one side of the main body. On the battery door is also an etched Vaproesso logo on the layered design.
The front of the device has the main power/fire button at the top above a 0.96″ display screen. At the bottom of the screen are situated 3 buttons; the up/+ and down/- buttons with a Mode button in the middle. The Type-C port is under the screen/button panel. At the top is the 510 plate held in via 3 screws.
To turn the Gen 80 S on or off it is the usual 5 fast clicks of the Power/fire button and to lock or unlock it is 3 fast clicks of the same button. To enter the menu, press the middle Mode button 3 times. From here you can select the modes between F(t) wattage, Pulse mode, VWN and DIY mode.
There is also a system set option in the menu where you can reset the device, change to Smart mode, reset the puff counter and view the software version. You scroll through this menu with up/+ and down/- and the middle Mode button to confirm and press the power/fire button to exit.
The display screen shows the power in large font as well as resistance, voltage, puff counter and puff time. The screen items will also obviously depend on what mode you are using on the 80 S.
Vaporesso iTank
In the Gen 80 S kit is the iTank that runs with the GTi Mesh stock coils. The tank holds up to a 5ml juice capacity with a TPD version for EU countries at a 2ml capacity. There is also the spare bubble glass to bump it up to 8ml capacity. It measures 52.5mm high with a diameter of 24.5mm.
The iTank is a bottom airflow where adjusting the airflow control ring opens or closes the three air inlets at the bottom. E-liquid is filled from the top where you push and slide the top cap to reveal the fill port. The top cap does also screw off for cleaning the tank. At the top is a large chuff cap which is a 510 size.
To replace the coil, simply screw off the bottom tank base and push the coil into the middle of the tank. This will then be situated under the tank chamber inside the tank.
There are two coils supplied in the kit. One is the GTi 0.2Ω Mesh coil that is pre-installed when getting the kit/tank and the other is a GTi 0.4Ω Mesh coil. You can also buy replacement coils of the GTi range in the same or 0.15Ω resistance. The GTi 0.2Ω coil has a recommended power of 60-75W and the GTi 0.4Ω coil is 50-60W.
You can purchase the Vaporesso iTank separately if just want the tank without the Gen 80 S device in the kit form.
My Thoughts
The very first thing that struck me when testing out the kit is just how lightweight the Gen 80 S mod is. Even with a 18650 battery attached, this is by far the lightest single battery device (and many internal battery devices) that I have ever used. The iTank filled with juice feels heavier than the device. Along with it being so light, it doesn’t feel too cheap in that way. It is nicely designed in the same material seen in the first Gen series.
The bright colour of this Gen 80 S means if matching is your thing, you will just about get away with using a stainless atty on top (and obviously the iTank in this colour). There are more basic colours to choose from within the kit line up though. That said, I like this Aurora Green colour as it’s a bit different from the usual kit colours.
When using the Gen 80 S device, it is very user-friendly giving a very simple to use menu and a clear display with the main power in large font. It doesn’t make my puff counter seal of approval with only 4 digits but it seems the norm now on smaller devices generally. The fire button is nice and clicky and the fire response is instant and much faster than many other single battery mods.
With the Gen 80 S mod paired with the iTank, it gives a really good direct to lung vape. Airflow control and refilling of the tank are a breeze. It would’ve been nice to be able to add your own 810 drip tip, instead Vaporesso opting for a 510 size which to me is more geared for an MTL set-up. The iTank running with the GTi coils gives a very flavourful vape with plenty of vapour production. I didn’t notice too much flavour difference between both coils supplied in the kit but the 0.2Ω will produce more clouds being able to handle a bit more wattage.
All in all, a very decent kit for those looking for a smaller and hugely lightweight DTL kit using a single battery.
