Maybe you're new to vaping or maybe you're just picking up the activity again after years of not doing it regularly. Before you know how to vape, there are some important things that you should know about vaping. It's very enjoyable and has helped many people transition off of cigarettes successfully, but like anything else, you need proper knowledge in order to get started. Read on to find out 10 things that you've probably never known about vaping!
#1 - Properly Inhale the Vapor
One of the most important aspects of any kind of "smoking" is how you inhale it. Cigarette smoke is something that most people are familiar with, though they may not realize it. When smoking a cigarette, many people take one or two drags and then hold them in for what seems like forever before exhaling. This isn't good for your lungs and can actually be quite dangerous to do with anything containing nicotine, including e-liquid. The reason why is because over time this exposure to nicotine causes an addiction which makes it more difficult to quit later on down the road. We don't want that.
So when you're vaping, try to take long, slow drags like the ones you'd take in a yoga class. This will allow the full amount of vapor to make its way into your mouth and lungs, but it will also prevent you from taking in too much nicotine at once (which can be dangerous). You'll get more used to this style of inhaling over time. If you follow this tip, then by all means go ahead and hold it in for just 20 seconds before exhaling - just don't do it all the time because that's still not good for your lungs. Remember to know how to clean vape coils before getting started.
#2 - Vape Between 6-8 Watts
Most people who are getting into vaping prefer sub ohm tanks. While there are some that prefer RDAs (rebuildable dripping atomizers), it's best not to go in this direction when you're just starting out. Sub ohm tanks offer the convenience of ready-to-go coils and e-juice, but they also allow for more vapor production, which is great for people who want the full vaping experience the first time around.
When it comes to watts, do not under any circumstances vape below 6 watts unless you really know what you're doing. You can experiment with high nicotine e-liquids between 6-8 watts provided that your mod is compatible with sub ohm tanks - otherwise don't even try it. Once you get comfortable vaping at 6 watts, then feel free to experiment with higher wattages, but for now 6 is your maximum.
#3 - Pulse Your Coils for Better Flavor
One of the reasons why vaping results in better flavor than smoking is because you're heating up e-liquid to its boiling point (which vaporizes it) instead of burning it like when using a traditional lighter or matchstick. When you smoke a cigarette or a joint, many people tend to take really big drags and hold them in forever before exhaling. This isn't good for your lungs and aside from that, it can make the actual flavor of what you're smoking pretty bad too if done too often.
When vaping at lower wattages however you need to pulse your coils by taking short drags instead of full ones. This is because at lower wattages coils cannot stay heated for long enough to give you the kind of flavor that you want. By taking short half drags, it will allow your coil to get hot between small drags which gives the vapor just enough time to get really flavorful.
#4 - Vape Lower Nicotine Levels First
If you're new to vaping and have been a smoker in the past then there's a good chance that smoking high nicotine levels will be something that takes getting used to now that you're vaping instead. In fact, what many people do when they first switch over from cigarettes is alternate between smoking and vaping until their body gets used to not having as much nicotine all at once.
When you vape, start off by using lower nicotine levels in your e-liquid. This not only allows you to vape for longer periods of time, but it will also help reduce the nicotine addiction that you may be feeling. If you're using a sub ohm tank, then start with an e-liquid that has 3mg or 6mg of nicotine and work your way up from there.
#5 - Use Proper Terminology
When talking to other vapers, it's important to use the right terminology so that they know what you're talking about. You don't want to be that person who's new to vaping and doesn't know what an RDA is, or even worse - uses the term "vape" to describe smoking a cigarette.
#6 - Cut Down on Cigarettes Slowly
It's not easy to stop smoking, especially when you're addicted to nicotine. One of the best ways to quit is by weaning yourself off slowly and vaping is a great way to do it so long as you don't use high nicotine levels in your e-liquid. If you vape with high nicotine levels for too long, then you may end up going back and forth between cigarettes and vaping and this will just prolong your addiction instead of helping you come clean about smoking altogether.
When you're starting out, it's important to take things slow and not use high nicotine levels in your e-liquid. This will help reduce the nicotine addiction that you may be feeling and will also allow you to vape for longer periods of time. If you're using a sub ohm tank, then start with an e-liquid that has 3mg or 6mg of nicotine and work your way up from there.
When transitioning from traditional cigarettes to vaping, always remember that e-liquids with lower nicotine concentrations are easier on your lungs than those with higher ones even if they give you more flavor. Start out with an e-liquid that has 3mg or 6mg of nicotine and work your way up from there as you get more comfortable with vaping.
